Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card Review

Some travelers can bed down in any hotel or inn. Then, there are those devoted to one brand who refuse to sleep in a hotel not connected with their hospitality company of choice. The Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card was made for the latter consumer.

Benefits of the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card

This is one of few credit cards with a focus on a particular hotel brand that also has a generous rewards system. Those who use their HHonors Reserve Card to book a room at a hotel in the Hilton portfolio earn 10 points for every dollar spent. You will walk away from the computer with 700 HHonors points after securing a room for one night at a Hilton hotel. The benefits only get better when you reside at one of the brand’s resorts with rooms being as high as $400 per night. You can earn more than 500,000 HHonors points just by booking a hotel for the family’s annual vacation. Additionally, the HHonors Reserve card gives you five points for every dollar spent on car rentals and airline fares. You can earn up to three points for other qualifying purchases.

The hype over the HHonors points is validated in the fact that you can use the incentives to pay for your next stay. Imagine only giving a fraction of the cost of your room during a business tip out of town all because you earned nearly one million points on your last trip. The HHonors point system places such potential on the table. This card also comes with the automatic gold status, which opens the door to you getting every fifth night at any Hilton hotel free. The gold status remains so long as you are a cardholder, which means that you do not have to make an effort to keep your incentives.

Disadvantages of the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card

One significant con associated with the HHonors Reserve card is the minimal airline rewards. United only gives 1,000 of its points per 10,000 HHonors points. American Airlines offers 1,500 of its points per 10,000 HHonors points. Suddenly, considering the low value, your 400,000 points do not seem to do much.

There are also extra charges to consider while you are enjoying the fifth night free, courtesy of your gold status. The incentive does not cover additional fees for rollaway beds and breakfast. You will need to pay such costs out of your own pocket even with the price for the room being zero for a night.

Who is The HHonors Reserve Card For?

Those consumers who absolutely love the Hilton brand will enjoy the perks associated with this card. You may take special delight in the gold status that gives you free nights. Consumers who do not always book with the Hilton may not get the most out of this card. Those looking for hotel and airline rewards should probably find another card to satisfy their desires.
