Review of Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

For those who enjoy frequent travel and prefer to earn rewards, the Capital One® Venture® Rewards is an excellent credit card to consider. This card offers a great option for travelers with an excellent credit history who shop around when selecting hotels, airlines, and rental cars rather than remaining loyal to a single brand. Compared to cards that limit their rewards to a particular entity or a limited number of options, the Capital One Venture Rewards provides a wider selection of choices that will suit many travelers.

Capital One has designed this card as an option for those with an “excellent” credit history. Generally, this refers to customers who meet these conditions:

  1. They have never defaulted on a loan or declared bankruptcy.
  2. Within the last year, they have never missed a payment 60 days beyond the deadline for a loan, credit card bill, or medical bill.
  3. They have an established credit history of at least three years with a credit limit above $5,000.

Opportunities to gain rewards begin quickly with the Capital One Venture credit card. A sign-up bonus allows those who spend $3,000 on purchases during the first three months after receiving the card to have 50,000 miles credited to their account as a one-time bonus. There is no annual fee during the first year a card is used. An annual fee of $95 begins during the second year. With this rewards program, customers receive two miles for each dollar they spend, with no upper limits.

In addition to the double rewards miles on all purchases, the Capital One Venture Rewards card offers other benefits for flexible travelers. Since the cardholder acquires points without having to apply them to a specific loyalty program, they never have to worry about seat or blackout date restrictions that are common with many carriers. Also, there is no minimum redemption amount as long as the purchase is travel-related.

This card has excellent benefits for those who travel to foreign destinations as well. Unlike many cards used outside of the United States, there is no foreign transaction fee for purchases. All purchases, regardless of location when converted to dollars, accumulate two miles per dollar and each mile is the equivalent of one cent when a customer redeems them for travel rewards. This makes the Capital One Venture a preferred card to use for both foreign and domestic purchases.

The Venture Rewards card would not be the best option for someone who prefers a single carrier or who travels only on an infrequent basis. Rewards redeemed for non-travel purchases have only half the value as for those related to travel. Also, travel miles accumulated cannot be transferred to another partner.

If you enjoy traveling and want a card that offers flexibility, consider the straightforward benefits offered with Capital One Venture Rewards. For travel across many carriers, hotel brands, rental cars, taxis, and other transport, this card provides many options to earn points and apply them to purchases.
